About Maille
Maille is a fabric made of interwoven metal rings, links, or interwoven rings and links combined with metal plates. The modern term, "chainmail," is derived from "maille," the French word for "net," "link," or "mesh." I prefer "maille" instead of "mail," or "chainmail," both to avoid confusion with "chain mail" letters, and because I design jewellery, rather than armour. But the metal finery of wooing and warring have always been kissing cousins. The crafts of the armourer and the jeweller have evolved hand-in-hand, providing one another with advances in the art and science of working with metal. |
